The Daily Verse — read before you scroll

How it works

You choose which of your own apps to pause. Each day those apps stay behind a quiet screen until you have read the day's verses — then they open again until tomorrow. The day rolls over at midnight.

Getting set up

Open The Daily Verse and tap through the welcome screens.
Tap Enable Screen Time and approve the system prompt. This is Apple's permission; it is what allows an app to pause other apps.
Tap Choose apps to pause and pick the apps you open without thinking.
Allow notifications when asked. The pause screen's Read today's verse button uses one to take you to the reading.

Common questions

My apps are still locked even though I read today's verses.

The day only counts once you reach the end of the reading. Tap each sentence on every card — a card releases the swipe once its whole passage has been tapped — and keep swiping until you see "You read before you scrolled." The moment that appears, your apps are open again.

The pause screen never appears.

Check, in order:

Settings inside the app → Blocking → "Pause apps daily" is on, and at least one app is selected.
You have not already finished today's reading — pausing resumes tomorrow.
Screen Time access was approved. If you declined it, you can grant it in the app's Blocking settings.
The Daily Verse requires iOS 17 or later.

I tapped "Read today's verse" but no notification arrived.

Just open The Daily Verse yourself — it will still take you straight to the reading. That fallback exists precisely for when notifications are off or missed. To restore the faster path, enable notifications for The Daily Verse in the iOS Settings app.

Can I get back into a paused app in an emergency?

Yes, always. Open The Daily Verse → Settings → Blocking and switch Pause apps daily off. Everything unlocks immediately. Nothing in this app can leave you locked out.

Does it know which apps I chose?

No — and it cannot. Apple hands the app only opaque tokens for your selection, which cannot be read or reversed. That is why the app always says "your paused apps" and never names them. It sees no usage, no activity, and no content from any other app.

I missed a day. Did I lose my place?

No. The plan advances only when you finish a reading, so a missed day never skips content — you pick up exactly where you left off. Your streak counts consecutive days read.

Which translation is used?

The World English Bible, a modern public-domain translation. Every verse is bundled inside the app, so readings work with no internet connection at all.

Daily Verse Premium

Premium is an optional subscription that adds more verses after you have finished the day's reading, plus calming background music while you read. The daily habit — the reading, the unlock, and your streak — is free and stays free.

Managing or cancelling

Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple. On your iPhone open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, or use the manage link in The Daily Verse's own Settings screen. Cancelling during a free trial stops it before any charge.

I paid but Premium is not showing.

Open the Premium screen in the app and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account used for the purchase. If it still does not appear, email us and we will help.

Refunds

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your data

There is no account and no sign-up. Your readings, streak, saved verses and app selection live on your device only — nothing is uploaded, and deleting the app removes all of it. See the privacy policy for detail.
